NFEC Policy Briefing - April 30, 2008
To commemorate Financial Literacy Month, the Native Financial Education Coalition (NFEC) hosted its 4th Annual Policy Briefing on Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at the Washington, DC office of the Mashantucket Pequot Nation. Remarks were heard from John Hope Bryant who is the Vice Chair of the President's Council on Financial Literacy and Founder/CEO of Operation HOPE, Dan Iannicola Deputy Assistant Secretary at the U.S. Department of the Treasury and the Office of Financial Education, and Allison Binney, Chief Counsel and Staff Director Senate Indian Affairs Committee. NFEC also presented policy recommendations regarding financial education with a specific focus on youth for federal, state and tribal policymakers. The Native Caucus of the National Conference of State Legislators drafted a resolution in support of this year's recommendations.This year's policy briefing activities also included Hill visits and a strategic planning session with NFEC members from national Native organizations to develop a plan for implementing this year's recommendations.
