NFEC Policy Briefing - April 26, 2007

To commemorate Financial Literacy Month, the Native Financial Education Coalition (NFEC) hosted its 3rd Annual Policy Briefing on Thursday, April 26, 2007 at the Washington, DC office of the Mashantucket Pequot Nation.  U.S. Treasurer Anna Escobedo Cabral delivered keynote remarks.  At the briefing, the NFEC released a report called The Financial Literacy of Native American Youth which analyzed data from the bi-annual survey of high school seniors conducted by the Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy.  The report, which was sponsored by Merrill Lynch, documents the low financial literacy scores of Native youth.  NFEC also presented policy recommendations regarding financial education and asset building issues for federal, state and tribal policymakers.
