Land and Crop Dividend Payments

Depending on the land status of the individual, family, or extended family and its relationship with the tribe and the BIA (each location is a little different), there may be payments made through lessors of the land that the tribe and/or the BIA manage for the owner. The amount of income varies with numbers of owners and the status of the land operation within the tribe. Again, this is another income stream that can be budgeted for (as long as the payments to the individual or family are made on time and regularly) and should be included in any individual or family planning. Students should be encouraged to find out exactly what the status of their land is and when and how the payments are to be made. Each individual or family unit should have a clear picture of this income in much the same way that creditors should be managed so that nothing goes astray or resources get overextended.
